Description

Ballet Theatre of Queensland is Australia’s oldest continuing classical ballet company. BTQ is a not for profit organization which was created and continues to endeavor to provide professional performance and stagecraft opportunities to nurture talented young dancers, as well as fostering an appreciation of ballet amongst young and old audiences alike.

Each year BTQ presents six performances, utilizing all dancers in two casts. This means all dancers have the opportunity to learn and perform in a variety of roles.

BTQ auditions annually for our company members and is independent from any one dance school. To help maintain this independence, we rehearse at the Queensland Dance School of Excellence.  We are the only youth ballet company in Queensland which performs each year in the Playhouse at Queensland Performing Arts Centre, our State's premier arts complex.

BTQ performs professional quality classical ballets targeted at a young family audience which allows us to nurture not only young dance talent in Queensland, but also develop an appreciation of ballet amongst the younger audiences.

Our Artistic Directors, Timothy Brown and Libby McDonnell, are experienced professional dancers and choreographers. Timothy has performed with the Australian Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet, and has choreographed and danced extensively with the Qld Ballet and Expressions Dance Company. Libby has extensive experience as a contemporary dancer, choreographer and producer. Their experience and professionalism is another factor that distinguishes BTQ as being Queensland's premier youth ballet company.

The RSL is a totally independent, apolitical organisation run by its members, for its members including members of the ex-service community and current serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Meetings are usually held at 2:00pm on the second Sunday of each month at Multicap, 453 Earnshaw Road, Banyo

The RSL's Mission

The Returned & Services League of Australia (Queensland Branch) is established for the principal purpose of promoting the interests and welfare of former and serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their dependants by:

  • Assisting and caring for the sick, elderly and needy;
  • Preserving the memory and records of those who served, suffered and died for the Commonwealth of Australia;
  • Encouraging members of the League and citizens to serve the Nation with a spirit of self sacrifice and loyalty; and

Nurturing of the youth of Australia to ensure that the strength, vitality and security of
our Nation is preserved and enhanced.

Why the RSL exists

Committees and office bearers are elected and organised at local levels (Sub Branches and Districts), at a State Branch level, and at National Level.

These committees exist to provide a voice to veterans and the currently serving, and to provide them with the assistance they require in accessing the welfare and entitlements they deserve.

League polices on such matters as Veterans' needs, the national flag, Defence Force conditions of service, Defence Service homes; medical and hospital benefits; and compensation are reviewed regularly and form the basis on which the RSL voices its opinion on these and other national issues.

The Rotary Club of Nundah - Computers 4 Kids, PO Box 23
Nundah

Description

The project began in 1999, when the ANZ Banking Group decided to upgrade their computer systems in branches across Australia. Rotarians collected the superseded machines. In Brisbane and surrounding
districts the PCs were transported to the Donations In Kind project at the moth-balled Tennyson Powerhouse. DIK is an overseas aid program shipping over 40 containers of medical and educational supplies to PNG and the Pacific Islands every year. A project to recycle the PCs was initiated by Patrick Eldridge, a Rotarian with a life-long love of computing and Bill Waterfield, Director of Rotary's Donations In Kind (DIK) Project. Bill identified the need to sort the computers and improve their capabilities even before it became obvious to
others. Officially retired thrice over, Bill still manages export orders for the project.

In 2001, DIK moved to Wacol taking over the old General Store building at the Wolston Park Hospital complex. Computers for Kids had a new home. A devoted workforce of volunteer technicians have since provided several hundred refurbished computers to local and overseas recipients.
