About

The website www.banyo.qld.au is an ongoing project initiated by the Banyo District Community Group.  We invite others in the community to accept the challenge, join in and make this site truly representative of our community. This is a huge undertaking, so please be patient while we ensure that this site reaches its full potential and becomes a strong voice for our district.

We hope this site will become your gateway to Banyo and surrounds. Through it you will be linked to every aspect of our district.  Content and features are regularly added and adapted, and we welcome your contributions, comments, questions or suggestions about any aspect of this site.

Please contact us if you have something to contribute and to make sure your organisation is included in this resource.

What is www.banyo.qld.au?

www.banyo.qld.au is a website listed under the Community Geographic Domain Names project. It has been registered by the Banyo District Community Group on behalf of the communities of Banyo, Nudgee, and Nudgee Beach in accordance with the regulations listed below. This website incorporates www.nudgee.qld.au and www.nudgeebeach.qld.au.

What are Community Geographic Domain Names?

Community Geographic Domain Names are intuitive, easy to remember, locality based website addresses that combine a town or suburb's name with the name of the state and country where the town or suburb is found, such as www.bathurst.nsw.au and www.ballarat.vic.au.

The Community Geographic Domain Name licensing system is a national system that aims to deliver quality online information portals potentially for every town and suburb in Australia. They are regulated by auDA on behalf of the Australian Government and supported by all Australian State and Territory Governments. There are currently 22,000 Community Geographic Domain Name licenses available in Australia and with continued government support the Community Geographic Domain Name system will become the standard for accessing locality based information.

What are the requirements of a Community Geographic Domain Name Licence holder?

To ensure quality of experience for the internet user, Community Geographic Domain Name licence holders may only use the domain for provision of a community based information portal. Such portals should include,
but are not limited to, community events calendar, local business directory, community organisation directory, general information, local news and a community feedback facility.

The aim of Community Websites is to provide an online communication tool to help foster and develop stronger communities by promoting local economic activity and participation in social, cultural, learning and
civic activities.

What can the CGDN licence be used for?

The licence is solely for the purpose of operating a community website developed for the benefit of the entire local community.  The website should include all interests within the local community. As a guideline, website content should include but is not limited to:

  • community events
  • local business directory
  • community directory
  • general information about the community
  • local news
  • community feedback facility.

What are the benefits of a CGDN?

It is the easiest way for your community to be found on the internet through the website address itself.

A CGDN community website is one that truly represents your community due to the Policy Rules and Guidelines in place to preserve the names for use by the relevant community.

Provides a communication tool to help foster and develop stronger communities by promoting local economic activity and participation in social, cultural, learning and civic activities. CGDN website groups can utilise this communication tool to springboard initiatives and engage the community.

Provides a "community of communities" that can share experiences and the ability to communicate with each other.

Who can apply for a CGDN?

Any community group which is a not-for-profit legal entity or a special committe of local council and broadly representative of the local community.

There is only one true Geographic Internet Address for every locality -

  • a Community Geographic Domain Name (CGDN)
  • It is the easiest way for your community to be found on the internet through the website addess itself
  • Allows community and business organisations who can't afford their own website a web presence
  • You can become part of this "community of communities" who share ideas and support each other
  • Provides a springboard for community initiatives and engagement
